my two cents by the way, I didn’t respond adequately because I had to go to bed, is that yes, you can tell me to stop making race a factor, but when I hear POC telling ME that race is a factor, I shut up and listen because as someone who has racial privilege, I don’t get to speak over people who actually experience racial oppression and tell them to stop making it a factor because while it’s something that you can separate out from a situation, POC don’t have that liberty.  They don’t get to stop making it a factor because it is ALWAYS a factor.  So shut your privileged ass up and stop making us look ignorant.
Just because it’s not a factor for YOU doesn’t mean it’s not a factor.

I know it’s not a factor for me. Because race shouldn’t be a factor. Because people are people. And people make mistakes. And Chris Brown is just another person. The fact that he’s black has nothing to do with the fact that he beat his girlfriend and for that he needs to be called out. That’s what Seth Rogen did. And he was also calling out the people who run these things and telling them to take responsibility.
More people got pissed about Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift than they did over Chris Brown beating up Rihanna. You don’t see anything wrong with that?
So don’t tell me to shut my privileged ass up. I know I’m on this “entitled” pedestal. I know I’m white. I know I’m middle class. And any other hegemonic group you want to put me into. I am very aware (including italics for emphasis).
Not everything is about race. Sometimes people just do fucked up shit. To put it ever so eloquently.
