my two cents by the way, I didn’t respond adequately because I had to go to bed, is that yes, you can tell me to stop making race a factor, but when I hear POC telling ME that race is a factor, I shut up and listen because as someone who has racial privilege, I don’t get to speak over people who actually experience racial oppression and tell them to stop making it a factor because while it’s something that you can separate out from a situation, POC don’t have that liberty.  They don’t get to stop making it a factor because it is ALWAYS a factor.  So shut your privileged ass up and stop making us look ignorant.
Just because it’s not a factor for YOU doesn’t mean it’s not a factor.

I know it’s not a factor for me. Because race shouldn’t be a factor. Because people are people. And people make mistakes. And Chris Brown is just another person. The fact that he’s black has nothing to do with the fact that he beat his girlfriend and for that he needs to be called out. That’s what Seth Rogen did. And he was also calling out the people who run these things and telling them to take responsibility.
More people got pissed about Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift than they did over Chris Brown beating up Rihanna. You don’t see anything wrong with that?
So don’t tell me to shut my privileged ass up. I know I’m on this “entitled” pedestal. I know I’m white. I know I’m middle class. And any other hegemonic group you want to put me into. I am very aware (including italics for emphasis).
Not everything is about race. Sometimes people just do fucked up shit. To put it ever so eloquently.

THE FACT THAT PEOPLE GOT MORE UPSET OVER TAYLOR SWIFT’S HURT FEELINGS RATHER THAN RHIANNA’S BROKEN FACE IS RACISM.
people view taylor swift as an innocent virginal little white girl whereas rhianna is a sexual and empowered black woman… people are still saying she liked it.
how is that not racism???
and the fact that he beat up rhianna has everything to do with racism.  maybe not in the way you think, but racism fuels misogyny.  it’s one of the reasons why rap and hip hop music can be seen as extremely sexist (and is the only genre criticized for being sexist when it’s not the only genre that is.)  chris brown had a shit childhood, his father was an abuser. racism fuels misogyny which fuels more misogyny which creates a child who grows up to be an abuser.  not that any of this excuses chris brown from what he did because it does not, but no situation involving POC exists in a race free vacuum.

By identifying People of Color by their race, you are actively supporting racism. The only way to end racism is to stop making race a factor. Otherwise, race is going to continue to be a qualifier for situations like this one.
Chris Brown doesn’t deserve qualification. He had a fucked up life as a human being and not as a Person of Color. However, the sad truth is our culture continues pass judgment based on race.
And this is far from the original argument about Seth Rogen. He was pointing up not only Chris Brown, but also the actions of the Academy and of the music industry. And he is absolutely right.
